Speak Japanese with someone who already knows you.

The only app that lets you hold a real conversation in Japanese — not repeat phrases, not fill in blanks. Practice speaking naturally with an AI that listens, responds, and gently corrects you, just like a fluent friend would.

Generic apps teach you to fill in blanks. Kaiwaflow lets you talk.

If you're already past the basics — already comfortable with how learning works — the textbook lesson plan is the wrong shape. You don't need streaks, leaderboards, or another quiz on past-tense conjugation.

You need a partner who'll meet you mid-conversation, model the natural form when you stumble, and know who Mac is the next time you mention him. A partner who speaks the dialect you are working on — the slang from your last trip, the grammar from your most recent log entry.

That's the only thing Kaiwaflow tries to be.

// 01 · what makes it different

Built around three quiet ideas.

no streaks · no XP · no levels
// pillar 01

Spoken first.

Hold space, speak, release. Sensei replies in your ears, not just your eyes. Optional fullscreen mode for hands-free practice with subtitles you can toggle off.

browser STT primary · Whisper fallback
// pillar 02

Knows you.

Point Kaiwaflow at your Google Drive learning notes and it extracts context and vocabulary in one pass. Sensei knows about the Hokkaido trip, the dog you lost, the grammar from last Tuesday's log entry.

soft cap 20 docs · LLM-driven extraction
// pillar 03

Flow over correction.

Sensei never interrupts to correct. Instead, she models the natural form back in her reply. A small chip below each message lets you see exactly what was tacitly fixed.

// 05 · common questions

Common questions.

Who is Kaiwaflow for? +

You are probably right for Kaiwaflow if:

  • You are an adult learner past the beginner stage in Japanese (CEFR A2 or above; JLPT N5 and rising toward N3).
  • You already maintain your own learning notes somewhere (Google Docs, Sheets, Obsidian, etc.).
  • You are more interested in being able to talk than in passing a written test.
  • You've tried Duolingo and felt it wasn't for you.
  • You already pay for tools like Bunpro, Wanikani, Anki, or italki — you know good tools are worth paying for.
  • You are comfortable with technology.
How is this different from ChatGPT or other AI chatbots? +

Generic AI chatbots have no awareness of your level, don't track your mistakes, and don't adapt their teaching style. Kaiwaflow is purpose-built for Japanese conversation fluency: it reads your own learning notes, calibrates to your JLPT level, models corrections naturally in the flow of conversation rather than interrupting you, and builds a personal library of vocab and phrases you can export to Anki. It's not a chat interface — it's a practice partner that already knows you.

Can I practice speaking out loud, or is it text only? +

Both. Kaiwaflow supports voice input using your browser's built-in speech recognition, with Whisper as a fallback for higher accuracy (Pro). Sensei also speaks back to you via browser TTS on the Free plan, and high-fidelity Japanese voice (250k characters/month) on Pro. There's an optional fullscreen voice mode for hands-free practice with subtitles you can toggle off.

When does the app launch? +

Kaiwaflow is coming soon. We're putting the finishing touches on the product and will be rolling out access to early signups first. Join the waitlist now to secure early-access pricing or a founding member badge — reserved for the first 2,000 people before launch.

Is Kaiwaflow suitable for business Japanese or JLPT exam prep? +

Pro users get access to keigo and business Japanese modes, as well as JLPT-aligned vocabulary. That said, Kaiwaflow is built around conversation fluency first — it's ideal for people who want to speak Japanese comfortably. If your primary goal is to ace the written JLPT exam, tools like Bunpro or Anki may be a better primary focus, though Kaiwaflow complements them well for speaking practice.

What does "flow over correction" mean in practice? +

Sensei never stops the conversation to say "that was wrong." Instead, if you use an unnatural form, she naturally weaves the correct version into her reply — so you hear it used properly in context. If you're curious, a small indicator below each message lets you see exactly what was tacitly adjusted. You keep talking; learning happens in the background.
